Is it just me, or are the British producing more than their share of Young Adult novels? Many years ago I read a novel about a “pint-sized” James Bond, a “003 ½.” As I recall, the boy protagonist was the nephew of James Bond. If that novel was a good imitation of the James Bond novels, “Ark Angel” by Anthony Horowitz is a good an imitation of the movies. Protagonist Alex Rider is only 14, so the romantic aspect is not there, but everything else you expect from a James Bond movie is. The 323 pages go by fast. If you like Artemis Fowl, you’ll like Alex Rider. And if you do like Alex Rider, you’ll be happy to know that “Ark Angel” is the sixth in the series, so there’s plenty more where that came from.
