couldn’t get into this 305-page novel, which I understand is a prequel to several novels.

tho they suffer from an over-abundance of quick cuts, the action scenes are well done. but that’s about the only good thing in this, one of the worst bond films. the opening song is forgettable, as is most everything else. where did the exotic go? most of the cars bond drives in the film are boring, as is most of the scenery. I’m a bond fan, but this film is not recommended.

okay for kids but otherwise unsatisfying: forgettable songs and a very weak story. not recommended

light and funny, like “galaxy quest” or a live-action “incredibles.” premise: a high school for superheroes in training. highly recommended.

this 342-page novel, published in 2008, and narrated by the 13-year-old female protagonist, starts out with too many similies too soon, and the narrative drive isn’t strong enough for my taste. but the imaginative premise and the writing are good. recommended, especially for girls.

overly long but strange and enjoyable fantasy about a person who is born an old man and ages backward — somewhat like merlin from the arthurian myth. based on a short story by f. scott fitzgerald and aided tremendously by computer graphics.

I didn’t get into this 361-page novel, and not because it’s printed in purple. perhaps it’s because of too much backstory at the beginning.
whatever the reason, I intend to try again in the future.
published in 2008, “the ruby key” is the first in a series.
